Grounded Hearts
by Jeanne Dickson
WWII Historical Romance
Waterfall
In the midst of World War II, Ireland has declared herself neutral. Troops found on Irish soil must be reported and interned, no matter which side they are fighting for. When midwife Nan O’Neil finds a wounded young Canadian pilot at her door, she knows she’s taking a huge risk by letting him in. Not only is she a widow living alone, but if caught harboring a combatant, she’ll face imprisonment.
Still, something compels Nan to take in “flyboy” Dutch Whitney, an RAF pilot whose bomber has just crashed over County Clare. While she tends to his wounds and gives him a secret place of refuge, the two begin to form a mutual affection-and an unbreakable bond.
But Nan has another secret, one that has racked her with guilt since her husband’s death and made her question ever loving again. As Nan and Dutch plan his escape, can he help restore her faith?

My Review: Grounded Hearts by Jeanne M. Dickson is a well crafted and intriguing story. I always enjoy reading stories set in another time…WWII history is one of my favorite time periods. There are so many facets to this time period depending on what part of the world one finds themselves in. This story takes place in Ireland…Ireland remained neutral during the war–not siding with Great Britain or Germany. Before reading this book I just assumed Ireland would have sided with Great Britain.

This story gives the reader a feel for what it would feel like to visit Ireland in 1941…with its lush green countryside and quaint little villages where people care and look out for one another.

There is a romance brewing in this story, however it is not obvious how the two will continue a relationship when the war has only just begun. This adds a level of mystery to the story which keeps calling the reader to another page.

I really enjoyed this story…well wrote and fun to read.

I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading Historical Fiction, especially World War II history.

I would give this book 5 stars.

Blessings, Kasey
