About the book:

Finding God in the Ruins (David C. Cook, March 2016)

If God is love, why do we hurt so much?

When the reality of your pain doesn’t line up with what you’ve been taught in church, then what? While many abandon their faith or embrace hopelessness, it is possible to discover the God who heals your heart in the midst of the pain.

Matt Bays has been where you are. His unforgettable stories of loss and healing will usher you into a life where gratitude overpowers anger, hope overcomes despair, and hunger for God replaces indifference to God. With a fresh and original writing style, Bays demonstrates that true redemption is far more powerful than the temporary fixes of sanitized Christianity.

About the author:

Matt Bays is a writer, speaker, and musician with a passion to call people out of their hiding places. In ministry for twenty years, he and his wife, Heather, live in Indianapolis with their fun-loving and insightful teenage daughters.

My Review: If you’ve every found yourself in a really hard place and felt completely alone, then this is a book, you will want to read.  Matt has walked through some of the most horrific experiences in life and understands how painful journeying through this life can be.

If you know someone who is in the mist of a trial and want to be a support to them I believe this book would help you to better meet their needs. Sometimes when someone we love is going through a difficult season we don’t know how to respond and often what we mean to be helpful isn’t. This book will help to prepare you to speak life and love into another who is suffering.

This book is easy to understand and read. Matt speaks the hard truths…he says what many of us are afraid to speak (fearful of offending someone). Because of his willingness to be real this book would be an amazing tool to help anyone struggling with hurts, anyone who has been hurt–isn’t that all of us?-, and anyone who know’s someone who’s in the mist of great pain.

I can’t recommend this book enough for anyone dealing with seasons of suffering.

I would give Matt’s book five stars.
