We haven’t even put our forks down or had time for our turkey to digest before the stores start beckoning; singing songs of Black Friday Sales!Doors open earlier and earlier…even before Black Friday sees the light of day.
Parking lots become make-shift campgrounds. Lines build and nerves stretch…long, way, before they place the open sign in the window.
Sales’ papers are perused a half-dozen times, a plan of attack has been mapped out, and those brave enough to hit the battlefield suit-up and hit the malls.
Excitement builds as that targeted item gets closer and closer, but…oh, no, too late, the shelf is empty! No worries…at least the scotch tape is on sale…three for a dollar.
This pattern is repeated, store after store, navigating crowds and traffic until one returns home fatigued, frenzied, and frayed.
All this before the first of December!
With Black Friday squarely behind, the real fun begins…decorating!
If one’s attic isn’t bursting at the seams with Christmas paraphernalia the stores have shelves packed with Christmas items just waiting to be purchased: wrapping paper (paper enough to cover the walls of a thousand homes), trees (short, tall, thick, thin, green, white, pink, and blue), lights (twinkling, blinking, solid-colored, and multi-colored), bulbs (I don’t even know where to start on these), stockings (traditional…red with white fur, pink, purple, white, blue…oh, I give up), candy canes (peppermint, Life Savers, chocolate, you fill in the flavor), yard decorations (far to many to list), and Christmas cards (enough to fill a city block of Hallmark stores).
Oh…so…many…choices, who can choose?
Once we’ve completely remodeled our homes with holiday cheer there’s much more to be done: carols to sing, presents to wrap with big shiny bows, candles to light, cards to mail, cookies to bake, houses to clean, holiday parties to attend, friends and family to visit, and plays, concerts, and pageants to see.
Are you tired yet? Did I miss anything? Oh…yes…much? But you get the picture!
“Prepare Him Room”! With all the above going on is there room for Him?
Our Savior, Christ the Lord, Emmanuel, Almighty God, “prepare Him room”!
It’s okay if we have to shorten our to do list as long as we “prepare Him room”!
“Prepare Him room” the babe in the manager. The Christ Child…Jesus our Savior!
This will be the sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manager. (Luke 2:12).
Joy to the world! The Lord is come
Let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing
