I’m hooking up with Five Minute Friday today. Where everyone writes for five, unedited minutes all on the same prompt (word). Today’s word is writer.

God gives each of us our own set of unique gifts. When we use our gifts for God’s glory our spirits come alive and we impact the world for Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advise; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. I believe one of the gifts the Lord has given me to use is writing. Words give me a voice in which I am able to encourage others, spread God’s word, and to alert the world of our brothers and sisters who are in need of our assistance.  galStringing words together effects my soul and brings joy in the creating. I feel as if I’m doing what I was created to do when I’m pecking out words on my computer. When I truly begin to believe that writing is a gift that God wants me to use as a way to advance His kingdom I begin to doubt. I hear words quietly whispered into my ear like, “Your being prideful, do you really think your words make a difference, your not that smart, and you’ll make a mistake and the whole world will see it and then they’ll laugh–make fun of you.” But then I remember this is a battle, a spiritual battle, not against flesh and blood. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual wickedness in heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12. I know the serpent is crafty and plants doubts in our minds as a means to deter us from God’s desire. But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. Genesis 3:4. Then I tell myself I must not listen to the voice of doubt.

I begin reading other peoples beautifully written blogs and I slip into the comparison game as quickly as one slides into silk sheets. I begin to doubt, once again. Ann Voskamp says, “Measuring sticks always become swords–measuring sticks always become weapons.”

I remind myself once again, I only have to obey–end of story, period. God can use my obedience as He sees fix, my job is only to obey.

Blessings, Kasey

  1. I just finished writing some of my own thoughts about being a writer and then I read your post! Though our posts are very different we share some of the same thoughts, doubts, but also we have the power of Christ living in us and remind ourselves to use it, remind ourselves what God says. It is nice to meet a fellow writer who’s also honest about the struggle we live in. Thank God that the battle is won! Thank you for sharing your encouraging words, thoughts and I particularly liked how you went to The Holy Scripture and reminded us of God’s words!

    Blessings =0)

    • Ava Sophie, You have a beautiful name. I want to thank you for your encouraging words. I hopped over to your post and yes we share very similar thoughts. I believe the enemy is always trying to stop us from being used by the Father. We only need to obey the rest is up to Him. For those of us who write, I wonder if we are actually with God through our words? In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.John 1:1. Blessings, Kasey

      • Thank you for your words as well, and nice of you to read my blog=0) I think God is with us no matter what we do and when we use the gifts He has given us in work for Him, giving God Glory and honor, I think absolutely we are with Him. I recently heard there is a lot of different ways to pray, be with God and to seek God. For some of us, this might be one of those ways 😉
        Wish you a blessed week!

  3. I missed you over at FMF (there’s quite a crowd that gathers there, isn’t there?), but I’m glad you posted before me for Inspire Me Monday :). I LOVE the graphic with the verse from Galatians! Especially the part that says, “we have far more interesting things to do with our lives”. I often forget this and get caught up in the comparison game. Thank you for the beautiful reminder :).

    • Anita, Thanks for visiting. I was a little late for Five Minute Friday–I hooked up on Saturday. Its fun and challenging to write on the fly about a new word each week. Ann Voskamp at http://www.holyexperience.com has a great post on measuring sticks its entitled–How the Hidden Dangers of Comparison are killing us..{and Our Daughters}:The Measuring Stick Principle. You should hop over and read it if you haven’t already. Blessings and grace to you, Kasey

  4. So this —> “I only have to obey–end of story, period. God can use my obedience as He sees fix, my job is only to obey.”
    I too can get caught up in the comparison game but I do try to remember why I write and who I write for.
    Wonderful post, Kasey.
    Blessings.

  5. Yes, we are simply to obey and God will see to the rest! It’s not prideful in the least to use the gifts God has given you and to recognize that you are good at them. Taking the credit for the gift is prideful to be sure. But God is glorified when we allow Him to work through us to achieve an excellent outcome.
