Balanced

If your a stay-at-home-mother and feel the Lord tugging at your heart to work at home Tricia Goyer’s book Balanced: Find Center as a Work-at-home Mom is a most read. My daughter and I had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Goyer last spring (2013) in Amish county, Indiana. My daughter (12 at the time) had just finished reading Mrs. Goyer’s book By the Light of the Silvery Moon–which she loved–therefore when we heard Mrs. Goyers would be at a book signing in Shipshewana, Indiana we decided to meet her. You can read that story at Dear Weary Mom 3. We rose early and drove three hours to Shipshewana, one Saturday, last spring. Mrs. Goyer’s autographed my daughter’s books, posed for a photo, took time to chat, and offered advice on other authors my daughter might enjoy reading . She’s a very kind  and considerate woman.

The following is a brief summary of Mrs. Goyer’s new book.

Balanced: Finding Center as a Work-at-Home Mom

How can a work-at-home mom raise kids, juggle a career and take care of family responsibilities with only 24-hour days? Working at home while raising kids and juggling a career and family responsibilities is no easy feat. Author and homeschooling mom Tricia Goyer shares her tips for finding balance among all your many hats as a mom. Balancing is a process and a journey, one that Tricia herself has yet to perfect. But between writing more than forty books, raising and homeschooling six kids, being a wife, and being active in her community, she has amassed valuable tips she shares in “Balanced.”

The book includes tips on:
—how to create focus themes for your family
—how to prioritize your schedule
—how to utilize your job so it also benefits your kids
—how to keep yourself out of the comparison game

The following is my brief summary of Mrs. Goyer’s book Balanced: Finding Center as a Work-at-home Mom.

First and for most Mrs. Goyers encourages her readers to seek God’s will in all areas of their lives. Realize no one can do it all and we don’t have to. Establish a list of priorities for their family and only partake in the activities that align with these priorities. Make a schedule, pray over it, allow room for margin–interruptions, God moments–and be flexible.

The following are a few quotes from Mrs. Goyer’s book that I particularly liked.

“Establishing our priorities give us a guide for what our daily life should look like.” Tricia Goyer

“Figure out your priorities and cut out what are not.” Tricia Goyer

“By working at home you’re about to make a difference in two arenas–close up and out there. When you inspire others outside of your home, your children will see not only that they aren’t the center of the universe but that serving and helping others is something worth working hard for. And as you serve your children in everyday life, you’ll be reminded again and again what matters.” Tricia Goyer

It’s obvious from Mrs. Goyer’s writings that she’s a woman walking with the Lord. She listens to what the Lord whispers in her ear and pours it out for her readers.

I highly recommend this great read. You will glean truth and wisdom from this book.

Blessings, Kasey
