H…is for Hero

Hero 2Hooking up with Five Minute Friday. You write for five minutes, unedited about one word. Today’s word is hero. Also hooking up with Friendship Friday from A to Z.

What makes a hero? I suppose it depends on who you ask, as to what answer you will get.

Some might tell you it’s the man who rides up on the white horse and slays the dragon. Others might tell you it’s a movie star, an athlete or olympic winner, a musician, an astronaut, or even a cowboy. Still others would tell you it’s the people who put their lives on the line to save others: soldiers, policemen, and firemen. I imagine, if you asked a young child who his or her hero was they just might tell you it’s their mother or father. We all have our own opinion of what makes a hero and all the above would fit the description.

However, might the greatest hero of all be the one who gives of himself/herself without recognition, without longing or even expecting recognition.  They do what the do whether it be life saving or mundane because they love people…family…friends…God. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and all your strength.’ The second is this ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31.

They fight for our country…go to work to provide for their families…wake in the night to soothe a frighten child…stay when they’d rather go…serve when they’d rather rest…love when it’s hard! All without accolades, medals, or rewards.

Humbling themselves, taking the from of a servant…all in the name of love.

Blessings, Kasey

  1. Stopping by from Five Minute Friday – thank you for visiting my wordpress site 🙂

I really like how you drew on the passages from Samuel & Mark in your Hero post. Often I’m looking at others’ posts after my own FMF and I feel like I missed the boat and I love that so many perspectives enhance & broaden my own.
