Hooking up with “Five Minute Friday.” Writing for five minutes, unedited about one word – today’s word it “True”
I heard Warren Barfield say this week, ” It’s politically incorrect to speak the truth. We are free to believe anything, but we just can’t tell anyone what we believe.” His word’s speak volumes about where we are headed as a people.
In order to know if something is true it must be measurable. For instance, if we say a book is six inches long, we need only to lay a ruler beside it to see if it measures six inches. But if I were to say purple is my favorite color, therefore, your favorite color should be purple too. Whether or not my favorite color should be your favorite color is not measurable–it’s an opinion.
I know of only one measuring stick to determine whether something is true or false and that’s God’s word. God is the same…yesterday, today, and tomorrow…His word never changes. He can not lie! Therefore, if I’m going to claim something is true, I must be able to back it up with Scripture, otherwise it’s just my opinion.
It’s never fun to be confronted with the truth when we’ve done something wrong, but God’s word tells us to speak the truth in love. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. Ephesians 4:15 NIV.
