Dear Weary Mom – Rejection

DSCN3660a

Dear Weary Mom,

Rejection is a hard pill to swallow–it cuts, rips, and tears…all the way down.  It breaks your heart and leaves wounds that may never heal.  Oh, yes, they scab over… until…until the next time, then the old wounds are reopened, they bleed and they sting the tender places of your heart…the very places that were just beginning to heal.  I’ve felt it, you’ve felt it, and our Savior has felt it–He was rejected by His chosen people.  Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?”  And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no fault in Him at all.  “But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover.  Do you therefore want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”  Then they all cried again saying, “Not this Man, but Barabbas!”  Now Barabbas was a robber.  John 38-40. We know why it happens…because of sin.  We know the how and the why…when Adam and Eve decided to reject God’s will.  Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.  For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”  So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate.  She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.  Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.  Genesis 3:4-7. We’ve all come to understand that as long as we live in this world, we will occasionally, feel the sting of rejection.  Although it isn’t pleasant…it’s part of life. But it breaks a mother’s heart when it happens to one of her children.  I wonder how little girls can be so cruel?  How they can get such pleasure out of breaking another little girl’s heart.  It’s nothing new…it happened when I was a girl and I’m sure it’s been going on for generations.  That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9   What does a mother say?  How do you comfort your child?  Oh, how it breaks your heart, to see the tears rolling down your child’s face knowing whatever you say will not remove the scar that’s forming on her heart. I counsel and give examples of how its happens to others…over and over again…that it’s not her or anything she’s done.  I tell her how special she is and how much she is loved.  I tell her we must pray for this other girl. I know what scripture says.  Repay no one evil for evil.  Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.  If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.  Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink;  For in so doing you will reap coals of fire on his head.”  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.  Romans 12:17-21.  But I say, love your enemies!  Pray for those who persecute you! Matthew 5:44 All a mother can do is obey God’s word, trust His word, and pray for my child and the other child involved.  God is in control!  And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.  Romans 8:28. Sweet mama’s, if any of you have walked this road before and have any further advice for this weary mama, I would welcome your comments.

Count blessings, Kasey

  1. Oh, sister! I just had this conversation with my 10 year old girl this morning as she got ready for the first day of school. She was feeling nervous because last year, another girl had called her ugly and was mean to her. It breaks my heart! But I reminded her that when people are mean to us, it is always an indication that they are hurting themselves. And so, mean people need love!
You are so right- rejection stings like nothing else! But Jesus’ example is so beautiful, isn’t it? His willingness to die for the very people that rejected him! Mean people need LOVE!

    • Sweet friend, I was just over at “Hope for Weary Moms” I was reading your blog. Oh, yes! Why do we humans always have to compare ourselves to others? Sometimes I think it is just insecurity, however, we all have enough troubles of our own, without worrying about someone else. I’m always reminding myself to stay in my own backyard. Try not to worry what others may think, as long as you are doing God’s will, you are doing right. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment to my post. Blessing and grace to you and your sweet family, Kasey
