And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Genesis 2:18
Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons. Mark 3:14-15
Dear Weary Mom,
Sometimes motherhood can be very lonely especially when you are a stay-at- home mama and your children are very young. God created us to be in community; we need Jesus and others to help us do life. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 So if your feeling a little down or lonely invite someone over. It doesn’t have to be grand to be great.
I have nothing against Pinterest, I like perusing it as much as the next person, but sometimes we fall under the misconception that in order to entertain we have to be able to put on a display equal to the ones we see on Pinterest or Martha Stewart’s webpage. It’s just not true. Its not what we serve or what we serve it on that matters. Friends don’t care if you have mismatched chairs around your table, a leaky faucet, a few cobwebs in the corner, or whether your house is large or small–it really doesn’t matter to them. They only want to spend time in your presence. Peanut butter and jelly can be terrific when shared with a friend.
I like to use party napkins (the kind you use for birthdays etc.) because I like a thick napkin. I don’t however like the price, therefore, when I go shopping I look on the clearance racks to see if I can kind any party napkins that are on clearance. I try to find them for fifty cents or less, then I usually buy all they have. When my friends come over I pull out all these mismatched napkins and plates. They always get a laugh out of what they are eating their food on.
My mom came over for lunch today and she made the comment, “”Christmas in July”. I wasn’t sure at first what she meant by that comment, then she pointed to the paper plates which were decorated with Christmas trees–Christmas in July.
Don’t wait until until you have a bigger yard, that remodeling project is finished, or you’ve purchased a trampoline. Sometimes we miss opportunities to enjoy one another’s company because we are waiting for the perfect time or perfect space to entertain in–don’t wait!
What are you waiting for? Pick up that phone and call someone.
Count blessings, Kasey
